Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment

Published: September 23, 2026

Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment

Prescription drug addiction often starts with a legitimate prescription and a doctor’s trust. Our program helps you find relief from pain, anxiety, or focus challenges without relying on medication misuse to get there.

Prescription drug addiction can feel different from other substance use disorders because it usually starts somewhere legitimate — a doctor’s office, a real diagnosis, a real prescription. That makes it easy to minimize, and hard to recognize when use has crossed a line.

Our clinicians work with clients across the full range of prescription drug misuse, whether it involves a single medication that’s become hard to control or several. We coordinate directly with prescribing physicians when appropriate, and build a treatment plan that addresses both the substance use and whatever the medication was originally treating.

You don’t have to choose between managing your health and stopping the misuse. Our goal is to help you do both.

Signs You May Need Treatment

  • Taking more medication, or taking it more often, than prescribed
  • Seeing multiple doctors to obtain more of a prescription
  • Feeling anxious or panicked at the thought of running out
  • Withdrawal symptoms between doses
  • Continuing to take a medication after the original reason for it has resolved

Our Approach to Treatment

Individualized Assessment

Prescription drug misuse spans many drug classes — sedatives, stimulants, and more. We build your plan around the specific medication and the reason it became hard to stop.

Medical Coordination

We coordinate with your prescribing physician and detox partners when needed to manage withdrawal or tapering safely.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT helps identify the thoughts, stressors, and habits that drive continued use, and builds coping strategies that don’t depend on the medication.

Treating the Underlying Condition

Whether it’s pain, anxiety, or attention difficulties that led to the original prescription, we treat that condition directly so medication misuse isn’t filling an unmet need.
